This strictly prohibits any petrol or diesel vehicles from driving within five hundred meters of the monument. This is why your bus or car stops here, ensuring that the sulfur dioxide from exhaust fumes doesn't turn the pristine white marble into a dull, sickly yellow.
Now, look around at the Shilpgram complex itself. It is much more than just a parking lot. This is a dedicated crafts village and open-air theater designed to showcase the living traditions of Uttar Pradesh.
If you have time after your tour, it is one of the best places to see local artisans practicing the same stone-inlay techniques used on the Taj itself. To bridge the final gap to the East Gate, you have a few fun options. You will see a fleet of electric golf carts and battery-operated buses zipping back and forth.
These are the primary mode of transport for most visitors. However, if you want a more old-world experience, look for the camel carriages. They offer a slower, more rhythmic approach to the gates that feels like a nod to the Mughal era.
If the weather is mild, it is also a very pleasant ten-minute walk through a tree-lined corridor. For logistics, the main ticket counters are right here at Shilpgram. A quick tip for you: avoid the physical queues if possible.
There are official QR codes posted on almost every pillar; scanning these allows you to buy your entry ticket instantly on your phone. Once you have your digital ticket and clear the security scanners at the East Gate, keep your eyes forward. The East Gate is often the preferred choice for those in the know because the morning light hits the mausoleum beautifully from this side, and the walk through the outer courtyard is breathtaking.
